Interesting Tourist Spots in Savannah

There are many interesting places for tourists to visit in Savannah, Georgia. If you are interested in nature you have a few options. For instance, you could visit the Savannah Botanical Gardens or, if you want to visit a larger wildlife area, you can visit the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge. This large refuge provides many opportunities for bird watching and exploring. There are several trails that you can hike or bike on.

Outdoor Attractions

A popular tourist destination is Tybee Island where you can go out on a boat to look for dolphins or to go fishing. You can also rent kayaks and paddleboards and you can go on guided paddleboard tours, or you can go on a boat tour of the marshes. Savannah has several parks that you can visit. These parks are very nice places to hold a picnic in. One of these parks is Forsyth Park which contains a large fountain that was built in 1858. This beautiful park also includes a visitor center and a place to get food. It is surrounded by many beautiful old buildings and has large shady oak trees. It would be the perfect place to hold a picnic or go for a walk. There are also many squares in the city that you can visit. These have large trees, fountains, statues and benches that you can sit on.

Historic Attractions

Edmund Molyneux Mansion

If you are interested in visiting areas of historic importance, then you can visit the Savannah historic district which includes the original town plan from 1773. There are several old buildings present in this district including the Owens-Thomas building which was constructed in 1818, the Edmund Molyneux Mansion built in 1917, and Spencer Woodbridge House built in 1795. The Savannah riverfront region has many old factory warehouse buildings that have been converted into shops. This is a good walk if you want to see some of this architecture and do some shopping at the same time.

Fort James Jackson

When looking for historical structures in Savannah, be sure to visit the National Historic Landmark, Fort James Jackson. It is found on the banks of the Savannah River and is the oldest of the brick forts in the state of Georgia. The fort offers daily canon firings and various programs for different ages. The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist would definitely be worth a trip. This beautiful church was constructed in the 1870s. The inside contains ornate marble and several murals, and the pipe organ contains over 2000 pipes.

Child Friendly Attractions

If you have kids, then visiting the Savannah Children’s Museum would be a great idea. The museum has various exhibits and interactive activities for kids. There is also a historic museum, the Savannah History Museum which includes exhibits on the Civil War, American Revolution and up to the present day. While at the museum you can visit the nearby Battlefield Memorial Park. This park is a memorial to the American Revolution Battle of Savannah.

Regardless of whether you are interested in nature, fishing or history, Savannah has a place you can visit.
