Fall Festivities – Part 2
Festivals generally center around masses of people enjoying good food and loosening up with some alcoholic beverages. During November Savannah gets straight to the point of these celebratory essentials with the Food and Wine Festival. Presented by huge food brand Publix, this giant week long event is perfect for those who love to dine with the finest ingredients and want to experience new flavours. The line up of guests is impressive all on its own. Culinary couch experts will no doubt want to attend on the back of the supreme chefs and food experts alone. And what’s great about this endeavour into taste is that guests have the opportunity to actively get involved. For those who want to learn the way of the kitchen warrior, additional ticket holders can participate in the Bistro Savoir Interactif. Here Savannah Culinary Institute chef instructors will guide you through the step by step processes that will culminate in you creating dishes from several cultures. Roll your own set of Turkish meatballs with the help of Chef Gearry Caudell. Fold perfect Chinese dumplings alongside Chef Zebulon Berry to go with your stir fry. And even pickle some hot Jamaican peppers that you can show your friends, as Chef Alex Lewis assists you in searing Red Snapper the best way. And if the new recipes and methods are not tempting enough, Chef Jean Vendeville will accompany the cooking by pairing the best wines to go alongside your hand made dishes.
If learning new skills and dishes sounds like your type of heaven, the Savannah Food and Wine Festival also has a selection of Master Classes. At these incredibly rare opportunities a selection of guests will get to spend a more intimate and lengthier chunk of time with a plethora of experts in several fields of food. Master the intricacies and variances of wine pairing as tasting sessions here come with wisdom accumulated by years in the industry. Learn how to cut the most flavour rich portions of meat from a cow as a master butcher gives you direct instruction that will take you from cutting to cutting. If you are coming here to learn you won’t be disappointed, however if you are coming here to indulge there is plenty of delicacies to get stuck into.
After all that exquisite food and exceptional wine, what better way to relieve some of the guilt than a good run. Luckily Savannah has something in this field too in the form of the Humana Rock and Roll Marathon. No need to bring your gym playlist to this session, since 1998 this sweat filled race and relay event has been intertwined with the music scene bringing racers and spectators incredible live music from some of the greatest acts worldwide. This year humanitarian, filmmaker and musician Michael Franti leads the way as he and his band Spearhead belt Rock and soul vibes into the airwaves amongst the hundreds in attendance. Here live music, physical exercise, and community positivity join together to make a heart pounding day out in Savannah.
